Gnome Cross-ing

At Cross Plants and Produce
There's a local Computer repair shop called Blue Computer Solutions who do a really good job promoting local businesses. They have a gnome that travels around town. We came to Cross Plants and Produce to buy a few tomatoes and found the gnome hanging out... so we thought we'd take a picture with it.

Smiling but scared.
My oldest daughter is going to be in Middle School next year. Barton Bobcats... Tonight was "Meet the School" night. Oh my.

They referred to the future middle schoolers (5th graders) as "baby bobcats."

PRAY BALL - Winter 2015
So, if you follow this blog, you'll know I play Adult Co-Ed Kickball (I'm on the front row kicking my green shoe up in the air.

This is our "goofy" team photo.

PRAY BALL is the kickball team from Kyle United Methodist Church.
The league is part of the Kyle Parks & Recreation Department and we have had a great time participating for the last 5 years.

Volunteer of the Year

Volunteer of the Year
I was very surprised and happy to be nominated as one of the 9 nominees for Kyle Chamber of Commerce's Volunteer of the Year. Sue Ferrell, whom I actually nominated for the award, was named as the winner... and I am VERY happy for her. She is one of my favorite people in Kyle... and, as someone mentioned to me that night, losing to Sue is like losing best actress to Meryl Streep.

I'm also lucky to count almost all of the nominees as friends.

Blue Water Highway Band - CD Release

Blue Water Highway Band
On Friday, February 20, the Blue Water Highway Band had their CD release party at the Hays Performing Arts Center in Kyle. Blue Water Highway Band is made up of 6 individuals... and 4 of them are teachers at Curious Chords music studio in Kyle, Texas.

It was an amazing performance. I shot quite a few pictures... this is one of my favorites.

Speaking of favorites... check out their cool video for what could be their first hit (I really think it's good enough) -  "Medicine Man"

Throwback Thursday - Science Hall

Science Hall in Kyle / Buda where Jason Andrews was a teacher.
This image came along with this quote:
"My family had farming interests in Kyle and Buda and my great grandfather founded Science Hall when he migrated to Texas from North Carolina after the Civil War. Here is an old photo of the original Science Hall"
- David J. Andrews

I found this on Texas Escapes. I'm assuming this building is long gone.. and was at the place where Science Hall Elementary is located now - Science Hall Eelementary.

The direct link to where I shared this photo and quote from is here: http://www.texasescapes.com/TexasHillCountryTowns/KyleTexas/KyleTx.htm

See the light - Koy

See the light?
While having lunch at Koy (sesame beef is awesome and the girls love the California Rolls & wonton soup) I looked up and saw the neat light boxes over the lighting. So.. I took a photo... and now YOU can see it. :)

Whataburger Taquito

Valentine's Breakfast
So.. there used to be an old commercial on the radio and TV promoting the breakfast taquitos at Whataburger... it was this lady who said something like "they're just like my Abuelita (Grandmother) used to make."

If her Grandmother used generic tortillas, hash brown sticks and sliced american cheese... I feel bad for her.

:) They weren't bad... and because I got one for free they were totally worth the $2.50 for 2.

Tardis in Kyle, Texas

I wonder Who this Tardis is for, Doctor?
This is probably my favorite lawn ornament in Kyle, Texas. A resident in town here has proudly displayed a Dr. Who-style TARDIS in their front lawn. I first saw it in October and thought it was a Halloween decoration... but it's February and it's still there... and I dig it.

From Wikipedia:
The TARDIS[nb 1][1] (/ˈtÉ‘rdɪs/Time and Relative Dimension iSpace)[nb 2] is a time machine and spacecraft in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who...
How awesome is this?

Concerts For A Cause - Season 2

Getting down to Business Cards
Concerts for a Cause is a way to raise awareness of and raise money for some of the local-to-Hays County charities that work to make this “simply charming” county an even better place to live. In their first year (2014) they raised over $4,200 to benefit local charities.

They have announced Season 2: http://kyleconcerts.blogspot.com/2015/02/SeasonTwo.html

We're from Texas

Just in case you wondered what state we are in. It's Texas, Y'all.

Stopped in at a local convenience store today and came across this car. Had a nice conversation with the owner of the car... she said she bought it like this.

Migas - El Roble

The Migas at El Roble are Legit.
Back in November I stopped in to El Roble for their Migas (link).
This past weekend I stopped in again. And they were just as good.
I ordered the corn tortillas this time and they were delicious.

THEME DAY - City Daily Photo

I am participating in the City Daily Photo event - Theme Day for February 2015.

The question is:
If you had to leave forever the city from which you usually post, what would you miss most?

The Iconic Water Tower

Honestly... I'd miss the people the people the most. Kyle, Texas has some of the most interesting, fun, wonderful and caring folks. It would be incredibly sad to lose that in my life.
